Birmingham (July 16, 2008) – Varsity Sports Media (VSM), a SportsMyx Holdings company, today announced that the upcoming “Varsity Sports Media’s Alabama Football” magazine will be available statewide in August 2008.
This is the fourth football publication and fifth overall published by VSM, which has previously released annual football magazines in the states of Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee, and a basketball magazine in the state of Kentucky.
The 208-page magazine will be the first of its kind in Alabama, featuring a glossy finish, professional design and production, and entertaining editorial features and photography. The magazine will have a considerable shelf life, giving advertisers a durable vehicle that will reach readers throughout the football season.
“Varsity Sports Media’s Alabama Football” magazine will be available at traditional news outlets, various retailers and high school campuses statewide. It is also available to order online at www.alabamaphenoms.com.
The magazine, which will be produced annually, includes coverage of the 428 AHSAA and AISA varsity high school football teams, player statistics, recruiting information, color photography, feature stories by professional sports reporters and 2008 schedules for every high school program.
As a bonus, the magazine will also cover Alabama’s 15 collegiate programs, including comprehensive preseason coverage of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, UAB Blazers and Troy Trojans.
The magazine will be available statewide with two separate covers – one depicting Alabama quarterback John Parker Wilson and the other featuring Auburn quarterback Kodi Burns. Cover stories on both will be highlighted inside.
Additional covers will be produced featuring Enterprise High School, Leeds High School, Montevallo High School and Hoover High School. Those magazines will be available in those cities or through the schools themselves.
“Producing two statewide covers is a natural choice, and it allows avid Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers fans to show their support by buying one or the other,” said managing editor David Wasson, a 20-year journalism veteran with award-winning stops as a sports editor in Florence, Ala. and Tuscaloosa, Ala. “We will be keeping track of which one sells more online at our Web site – www.AlabamaFB.com – to see the fan reaction to them.”
Inside features also include a piece on Troy coach Larry Blakeney, UAB offensive lineman Matt McCants, Deshler High’s potent Wing-T offense, how Enterprise High’s program is coping after the deadly 2007 tornado, the 15 toughest high school stadiums for opponents in the state, a preseason high school and college Top 25, complete SEC preview, and more.
As a companion to the magazine, Varsity Sports Media will launch AlabamaFB.com prior to the start of the football season. AlabamaFB.com will be updated daily with news and commentary on the Alabama Football scene.
Another key portion of the magazine are the “Reebok Phenoms”, a three-team all-star list and breakdown of high school superstars, positional Top 10 player rankings, and the “Power 701” list of the top high school talent in the state.
